2025 will be the 3nd edition of the SALT&LAKE Trail
We try to to offer you again a well-organized event and provide you with all the information you need for it.
If you miss any information, just get in touch with us, we are happy to help you.
Routes
Route A ~480 Km ~8000 Hm
Route B ~280 Km ~5000 Hm
To provide the right distance to all of you we are working on two different routes that separate after 170 km.
You can decide on tour whether you will follow the longer distance or turn right to enjoy the paths back to Sankt Gilgen. For both routes the official time limit is 7 days.
The routes lead over public asphalt-, gravel and forest roads and the roads will not be closed for traffic. You have to obey the laws of the road traffic act (StVO).
We try to find the best roads for you and to create a route with high percentage of gravel- and forest roads.
The basic route is fixed but we will work till summer to present you with the final track.

Guidelines
Besides our terms of participation, which you will have to accept with the registration, we want to underline our event’s guidelines.
Respect the environment
Avoid and leave no trace, leave nothing behind.
Consider times of nature protection zones (marked in our provided maps), meaning in some areas cycling before/after a defined time (in September between 07:00 p.m. – 08:00 a.m.) is forbidden!
Try to organize your arrival by public transport or form car pools.
Save plastic and re-use bottles. Tap water in Austria is drinkable but always make sure to pay attention to any kind of sign before drinking from a spring.
Take care of the paths, try to ride carefully. No shortcuts!
Take care of yourself and others
Prepare yourself accordingly for this bikepacking event. You can ride smoothly but it is a challenging track!
Be well equipped for all possible weather conditions. You are in Austria, the weather is unpredictable and can vary from very warm to very cold in the fall.
If you are in danger or in a serious situation don’t hesitate to call for help. A contact number of us will be sent out to the participants. The official number for international emergency calls is 112.
If needed, help others. Ride fair and respect others, don’t take useless risks.
Take care of local people using the paths and obey to local hints (e.g. to push the bike).
Respect the idea of unsupported bikepacking event
It is not a competition.
You can leave the track wherever you want but the rules say you should return on the same point to continue.
There is no control along the trail.
Outside support is allowed from third parties (e.g. to repair the bicycle, to re-supply something in a shop, to sleep in a hotel, etc.), but not from dedicated support vehicles.
You have to carry your luggage by yourself.
Use the tracking app or the tracker
Consider at the time of registration that you have to choose whether you want to use the provided app (without additional costs) or a tracker device (rental costs and deposit).
Check the tracking app or the tracker regularly during the event.
Insurance
Take care of adequate insurance in time. Please note, among other things, that in Austria a rescue by helicopter is subject to a fee and should therefore be included in an insurance.
